A recently emerged damselfly in our garden. I think the body is transparent and you can see the blood vessels inside. It was sitting there having emerged from its skin, in the second picture, drying off. Then a more mature one came along. There's something about the green light on the left hand creature - sunlight shining through the leaf - that makes it look more blurred than it is is you look closely at a full size version.

Very interesting images with lots of detail in such a small creature.

They are beautiful insects.

Do you have a pond from which the nymphs emerge?

I used to go fly fishing and tie my own flies, a good nymph pattern of damsel flies could be very effective.
We're not far off the Mayfly season or "Duffers fortnight" as it's called.

Yes, a very small pond. Once a lot emerged, but there were enough sparrows that we think they ate most of them. Far fewer sparrows this year.

I think the sparrows have all migrated to our garden where they are running amok in the seed beds.

When I was young, sparrows were easily the most common birds in the garden. In recent years I've seen very few in the garden, but this year there are loads!
